“O” Bubbles
For students not ready for nose bubbles, I teach them “O” bubbles.
It’s important that they make the O shape with their mouths. Otherwise they just make the SOUND of O bubbles. A lot of students struggle with this, so I have homework assignments to help. Pick the best ideas for your child. Not every idea works for every child.
Have them imitate you. Sounds easy enough!
Show them how to do it in the bathroom mirror so they can watch themselves. Sometimes kids think they are doing something correctly when they are not. If they see you and themselves in a mirror they can see the difference between what you are doing and what they are doing.
Use your hands to help them form the O shape with their mouth if they struggle. Sometimes they need that kind of help.
Bubble wands! Always a fun way to work on making the O shape and blowing.
Candles! Kids love blowing out candles. You don’t need cake for candles. Put them in mashed potatoes or just playdough (don’t eat the playdough!). Move them further away or add more candles if your child tends not to blow hard. We don’t want weak blowing. They need to take deep breaths and be able to blow long and hard…with power!
Blow up balloons! Easier for older kids than younger ones.
Straws in glasses! Have them blow into their straw. Do we even have to teach them this?! I think it’s a trait passed down in our DNA. LOL.
